MOE resource EOTC-Guidelines
We will start by looking at the philosophical foundations of EOTC (Education Outside The Classroom) For the next two days we will be focusing on the Maori World Views module.
Please make a Google doc entitled EOTC blog Posts so that you can write responses to each post I make - edit -THEN post to the blog. It would be a good idea to copy and paste the instructions onto your google doc, write your well considered response then copy and paste only your thoughts to the blog -not the questions.
1. "Education in and outside the classroom needs to contribute to the Hauora/Wellbeing of it's participants (students and teachers)"
How do you anticipate training for the Cross Country and the BOIC Cross Country EOTC event itself will contribute to all four dimensions of student participant Hauora?
I would like you to look at the six values included in The Whare Tapere section and consider how our actions pertaining to the cross country could promote growth in all six values but only write a response to the following based on Rangatiratanga.
2. "...each member of the group can influence the direction the group takes and as such there is a sense of shared leadership and collaboration"
Looking again at your Leading to the Cross Country assessment tasks while considering this quote, which tasks will require you to "... share a certain purpose" and "... act in unison" and with whom?3. Your final task is to comment on the post of two other classmates. Please ensure your comment is

ReplyDeleteThis is Hori btw I forgot to change the name
DeleteI think that people who engage in training and harsh physical activity together helps them to connect in their own way to each other and the dimensions of hauora. I have experienced this in the past. It has allowed me to get to know people I probably wouldn't have in different circumstances. In my opinion in training or physical activity it allows people to be able to connect to each other and can allow people to connect to each dimension of hauora.
ReplyDeleteI think the “sharing a certain purpose” quote refers to a group all having some form of control or say in their goal as a group as they “share a purpose” meaning they all contribute in their own way. In our case we must “act in unison” and “share a certain purpose” with our students in order to boost the groups hauora and feelings of achievement.
Very good explanation of how people have their different way of engaging with their different hauora, and how you put your own experiences in there.
DeleteLOL I was wondering who Lester was. I agree Hori. The meaning of connect is interesting and can be applied in many ways when considering how you will have to train your students in preparation for the Cross Country. You will have to 'connect'to each other (taha whanau) and if you train well together, help and encourage each other to overcome challenges those connections will be positive and your taha whanau will be enhanced. You,I hope will 'connect'your trainers to improving their aerobic fitness and perform well in both the Cooper's 12 Minute run re-test and the Cross Country. Therefore you are establishing and encouraging 'a common purpose' within your group. Should you be successful, motivation, effort to improve are all indicators of emotional and spiritual well being.
ReplyDeleteHaving a positive impact upon your trainers also will increase your confidence as a leader and sense of achievement(hinengaro, wairua). So,there is already positive impact upon Hauora before you even consider physical benefits.
Finally,when/if all of you 2PE leaders manage to connect to your trainees and connect THEM to the purpose of training you will all be 'acting in unison' sharing 'a common purpose'.
Although we didn't have a Cross Country year, my senior students last year were super pleased with the effort and improved performance of their trainees in their Fitness re-tests. One student said "I feel like a proud parent"
From my perspective, being outside, in general, is a huge beneficial factor that contributes to the other 4 dimensions of our Hauora. This is because being outside allows us to get good amounts of oxygen, and it allows your thoughts to flow. Relating this to training and cross country, it does help people realize things about themselves that they never thought of. For example, say the cross country’s track is 5km, this can be quite intimidating to many people. As a result, they would most likely not participate. Now, this is where leaders come in. We have to inspire and aspire them first, which aligns with their spiritual well being. For example, enhancing their confidence and determination. This allows them to learn from their mistakes and help create a positive mindset ,because a positive mindset is a huge factor in learning, and to be successful.
ReplyDeleteI would try my best to influence them in this way, because no matter how they will do in the end, they will be able to be proud of their efforts. This will also impact their emotional and physical well being. For example, they will be physically more fitter and learn new techniques for the future. By increasing the intensity of the training each time, allows them to enhance their endurance. As a result, it will increase their running distance overall. It will create a happier personality, for example, they will have good feelings about themselves. Social wellbeing, after empowering my group, it would hopefully inspire them to help their peers, but not just in cross country but in other areas as well. This is because influencing others will make you feel really good about yourself, and you can also impact someone else's lives.
And from past experiences, I have come to a conclusion that things like these, is that it is a like new chapter/ change/ challenge in our lives. That we learn and develop new things/ abilities/ capabilities about ourselves that never thought we will ever be good at, as a result, help enhance our well being in a positive way.
DeleteInteresting perspective Sophia. I liked the connections you made between your thoughts and ideas and what you want to do for your group.
DeleteThank you Sopia. As always, you have devoted considerable thought to my questions. I really like how you introduce an opinion/prediction/possibility and elaborate by using an example. I aim to get you all to appreciate what impact you CAN have on your trainees as a leader and to be able to plan and deliver trainings which deliberately create those impacts.Furthermore, being conscious of those impacts, you will be able to recognise them when they happen.
